Technical University of Mombasa is a Public University located in Mvita Constituency within Mombasa County.
Technical University of Mombasa is a mixed day and boarding school offering PhD, Degrees, Diploma and Certificates and is affiliated to/with the Central Government Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) is a public technical university located in the coastal city of Mombasa famous for its hands on graduates with a touch of creativity and innovation.
The origin of TUM was as a result of the consultations pioneered by Sir Philip Mitchell in 1948 between The Aga Khan, the Sultan of Zanzibar, Sir Bernard Reilly and H. M. Treasury.
Mombasa Institute of Muslim Education (MIOME) was founded as a result and from capital raised by means of gifts of Kshs.100, 000 from Sultan of Zanzibar and Kshs.50, 000 by the Bohra Community of East Africa.
The Khamisi Family donated 27.5 acres of land where the institute was built and 4.2 acres in Tudor area where the Kiziwi Campus stands.
In May 1951, MIOME enrolled its first batch of students to undergo a technical education programme which placed special emphasis on Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Seamanship and Navigation, and Woodwork.
