Chavakali Boys closed indefinitely after unrest
Chavakali Boys School has been closed indefinitely as a result of student unrest that has resulted in wanton property damage. This comes after the school administration spent time during the week offering guidance and counseling to the more than 2,000 student body.
They have smashed all the windows. This incident follows a fire outbreak at the dormitory on Sunday – said Mr Kuria who also noted that the BOM was holding a meeting to assess the extent of the damage.
The Chavakali principal, John Kuira, said the administration was shocked by the unrest following concerted prior efforts at guidance and counseling and is saddened that they had to send all students home in order to mitigate further damages to school infrastructure.
The same students had previously razed down a dormitory block.
Girls from the nearing Keveye Girls also smashed windows of their administration block demanding to be allowed a break to go home.
Due to this national strife, the education ministry later announced November 19th to November 23rd as official half terms break for all schools as a measure to relieve the fatigued students.
